We are proud of our gourmet pastry and chocolate walk! Here's what one participant has to say about it:

Dr. Irma McClaurin at Ladurée pastry shop

Want to savor Paris? Take the pastry and chocolate tour. It is a wonderful way to learn the history of this delicious food, and the walking takes the edge off any guilt you might feel for sampling at every stop.

Self-guided Gourmet Itineraries

For travelers who wish to explore Paris on their own, we create self-guided gourmet itineraries. Each itinerary contains detailed information about the route that you will follow each day, the places that you will visit and the types of products that you are likely to encounter. You will also receive a map that highlights the route for each day. Upon request, we will include our text entitled "For Your Dining Pleasure", which describes French dining customs and summarizes the many types of dining establishments in Paris. The itinerary will be bound in a personalized document and sent to you prior to your departure for Paris. With this document, you will be ready to explore gastronomic Paris at your leisure.

Examples of gourmet itineraries include:

  • daily visits to local markets to purchase provisions for picnicking followed by a walk to a park or garden to enjoy the meal on each day,
  • sampling baguettes and sourdough loaves from the best bakeries in town, and
  • determining your favorite French chocolate by sampling the products of Paris' premier chocolate makers.

Sample 4-Day Self-guided Gourmet Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive in Paris. After checking into your hotel, you will spend a leisurely afternoon strolling down one of Paris' most famous market streets. Dinner will be at an off-the-beaten-path restaurant for a sumptuous wine-pairing meal.

Day 2
The morning will be spent in a cooking class in which you actively participate in the preparation of a three-course meal. Afterwards, you will sit down with your fellow students and enjoy the food that you have just prepared. In the afternoon, browse culinary shops where you can purchase the best of French cookware, kitchen utensils, and tableware.

Day 3
Visit Paris' "Epicurean Quarter", an area that is replete with boutiques specializing in fresh and packaged foods, regional specialties, and wines and spirits. This visit may be self-guided or you may elect to ask for a guide to accompany you. After lunch, visit a major gourmet grocer in an adjacent neighborhood.

Day 4
In the morning, you will take a walk in the very heart of Paris, where you will visit a cheese shop that ages its products in a 17th century cellar on the premises, as well as other gourmet boutiques. After lunch, stroll past historic gardens and monuments while visiting some of Paris' time-honored pastry, chocolate, coffee and tea vendors.

Our itinerary planning process requires at least 6 weeks. Please review our Services & Fee Schedule, then complete our no-obligation Travel Planning Questionnaire. Upon receipt we will begin work on your itinerary.

...And for the experience of a lifetime, we ate at a recommended restaurant. It was a dining experience that we talk about to this day! We would never have found this place. It was a perfect bow on a perfect package known as our 25th wedding anniversary. I'm still getting credit from my wife and friends about this marvelous experience!
