Richard Wright’s Paris

Richard Wright is one of America’s most renowned 20th century writers. He and his family settled in Paris in 1946, where he was received as a literary celebrity. His self-imposed exile in France would inspire many other writers, including James Baldwin and Chester Himes, to establish residences there as well. The year 2008 marks the centennial of his birth (4 September 1908).

This self-guided walking tour takes you to many of the locations on the Left Bank that Wright, his family and his friends frequented during the 1940s and 50s.

The itinerary, in downloadable PDF format, contains 19 pages of guided commentary, a map, photographs and illustrations, and a page for notes.
