November 2007 - The Cemetery of the Holy Innocents
November 1st is All Saints' Day, a day on which French people honor their dead by visiting cemeteries and placing flowers on the graves of their dearly departed. To commemorate this day, we feature the history of the Cemetery of the Holy Innocents, a graveyard that for a thousand years was a central feature of life and death in Paris.
In our Quest for Smoke-Free Dining feature we review Le Parc aux Cerfs. Located in the center of the Montparnasse district, its friendly, efficient staff serves up delicious French cuisine. Finally, for our feature entitled Paris, Past and Present, we present a fountain that Bernini reportedly declared was the most beautiful work of its kind in all of France.
