January 2007 - The King's Church
New Year’s greetings from the staff of Discover Paris! In this month’s issue of Paris Insights, we present an article on the Saint-Germain-l’Auxerrois church. One of the oldest churches in Paris, its history can be traced back to the 5th century, when an oratory commemorating the meeting of the Bishop of Auxerre and the young Saint Genevieve was built on the site of the present-day edifice.
Continuing our quest for smoke-free dining, we provide a review of our dining experience at Mon Vieil Ami, a restaurant serving Alsatian-inspired fare that is located on Ile-Saint-Louis. And finally, to begin the New Year, we introduce a new, short feature called “Paris, Past and Present”. Each month it will treat some hidden or little-known aspect of the city that contributes to the mystique that draws millions of visitors to Paris each year. This month we present Ernest Hemingway’s secret passage. If you are a subscriber, please click here and enter your e‑mail address and password.
