July 2008 - Paris and the Color of Ceramic
During the period of France's history known as the Third Republic, there was an episode of artistic effervescence during which a number of architects embellished the exterior of buildings with colorful, enamel-painted ceramic. In this month's Paris Insights, we present the façades of a number of these beautiful buildings.
For this month's restaurant review, we dined at L'Appart, located just off the Champs-Elysées. We found that the staff that prepares and serves food here holds itself to a high standard of quality and presentation. And finally, for our Paris, Past and Present feature, we take a look at the ceramic-clad face of the building located at 31 and 31 bis, rue Campagne-Première. American artist and photographer Man Ray moved into a tiny studio here in 1922.
