November 2010 - Nadar: From High School Dropout to Iconic Photographer
November is photography month in Paris. To mark this occasion, we present Félix Nadar, one of the most renowned photographers of the 19th century. Although he dropped out of high school, he went on to become a novelist, journalist, aeronaut, artist, adventurer, caricaturist, and man-about-town. Read about his remarkable life in this month's Paris Insights.
We dined at L'Epicure 108, located in the 17th arrondissement, where we sampled Chef Tetsu Goya's Scottish grouse and truffled beef tail. Do these dishes sound good? To learn more, read our review of this restaurant in this month's Le Bon Goût. Les Arts Derniers gallery is currently exhibiting the works of two photographers: Malian Malick Sidibé and Senegalese Oumar Li. The exposition, which was selected by the Maison Européenne de la Photographie to be part of this organization’s 30-year anniversary celebration, presents black and white portraits of everyday people taken in professional studios during the 1970s. Learn more in this month's Paris, Past and Present.
