December 2011 - The State of Artisanal Beer in France-Part 2
To prepare this month's Paris Insights, we interviewed two women who work in the beer industry in France—Elisabeth Pierre and Cécile Thomas. Both of them have a keen interest in the resurgence of French artisanal beers and are working to make them better known among the beer-drinking public.
We dined at L'Académie de la Bière, where we found three French artisanal beers along with a wide range of Belgium, German, Czech, and Scottish brews. Read our review of this restaurant in this month'sLe Bon Goût. And for our Paris, Past and Present feature, we write about Gallia, a brand of beer that was once produced in Paris. Entrepreneurs Jacques Ferté and Guillaume Roy have relaunched the brand and hope to produce the beer in or near the City of Light by the year 2015.
